Colossians Chapter 3:
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 Mortify (control,subdue,restrain,supress) therefore your members (parts of the body) which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, (foreigner) Scythian, (savage) bond (slave) nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another,(bearing, put up with) and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (see Eph 5:19)
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; (but not according to the spiritual-obey God first) not with eyeservice, (only when they are watching) as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, (sincerity-not self seeking) fearing God:
23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Colossians Chapter 3 is all about obedience to God. Verses 18-22 addresses a vast audience.

God wants obedience more than praise and worship. Praise & worship without obedience is hypocrisy.

Amos 5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

The sweet smell of burnt offerings as a result of the perfume of frankincense used in the offerings.

Amos 5:22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

Amos 5:23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

1 Sam 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken (hear) than the fat of rams.

I believe the FAT may have a special significance to God as well as BLOOD

Lev 3:16 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the LORD's.

Lev 3:17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

Exod 29:13 And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul (lobe or flap of the liver) that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.

Notice—the Lord wants the innards. A symbol of the INWARD man, rather then the OUTWARD man.

Exod 29:14 But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering.

The bull—a strong mean-spirited animal by nature. The OUTER parts of this animal, flesh and skin, is a sin offering. It is not to be burned upon the altar. It is not to be offered to God as a sweet savor. Sin is not a sweet savor to God.

Exod 29:15 Thou shalt also take one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram.

Exod 29:16 And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take his blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the altar.

Exod 29:17 And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces, and wash the inwards of him, and his legs, and put them unto his pieces, and unto his head.

Exod 29:18 And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

The ram-sheep-lamb. A docile and meek animal. When the inner-parts are washed clean the WHOLE animal is acceptable to God. As we are washed clean from sin by the blood of Christ we are acceptable to God, both body and soul. By being INWARDLY cleansed our bodies will be OUTWARDLY cleansed one day. (At the Rapture)

Luke 11:39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

2 Cor 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

God wants the INWARD man.
Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

The Old Testament… Outward circumcision. Outwardly working to keep the Law written in stone. The "Jews" offering "daily sacrifices" for sin.

The New Testament…Inward circumcision. Inwardly keeping the law written in our hearts. "Christ" offering a sacrifice "once" for sin.

Old Testament Salvation--- FAITH in what God said concerning the WORKS of animal sacrifice. The Jews had not only to BELIEVE what God said of the animal sacrifices, they also had to PERFORM them.

The Old Testament LAW of COMMANDMENTS was the schoolmaster to point them to Christ, as was the WORKS of the LAW of MOSES. In the Old Testament FAITH and WORKS were compatible. WORKS were commanded as evidence of FAITH.

In the New Testament WORKS are a RESULT of FAITH. We are told WORKS are evident of FAITH.

James 2:17-18 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

FAITH and WORKS go hand in hand. If you have FAITH you WILL have WORKS. FAITH without WORKS is a DEAD FAITH. It is not SAVING FAITH.

WORKS without FAITH are as FILTHY RAGS. Roman Catholics have WORKS without FAITH, and about as many professing Christians have a FAITH without WORKS.

The Bible is teaching us that FAITH without WORDS is a DEAD FAITH in which there is NO SALVATION. If you see someone who says that Jesus Christ is his or her Savior, look for evidence of this. GOOD WORKS will make this manifest. IF GOOD WORKS are missing so is SAVING FAITH.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto (for) good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (be occupied with, live in them)

God originally created man unto GOOD WORKS. Adam fell from GOOD WORKS into SIN. Now God RECREATES (regenerates, renews, born again) us unto GOOD WORKS.

The Jews got to where they relied ONLY on WORKS for salvation. This is the way of the world today. Morality (keeping the law) and GOOD WORKS is what RELIGION is teaching. Religion is trying to make clean the outside of the man while neglecting the inward part of him..

We should always pray a prayer such as this.
Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Ps 139:21-24
