2 Timothy Chapter Three

2 Tim 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous (dangerous-unsafe) times shall come.

2 Tim 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Lovers of their own selves -selfish
Covetous - greedy, self seeking
Boasters-braggart, pretentious, self-glorifying, arrogant, egotistic, conceited
Proud- conspicuous, disgraceful, outrageous
Blasphemers- railing, speak evil of.

2 Pet 2:9-11 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil (rail against) of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

Jude 1:9-10 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil (rail against) of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

I am guilty of railing. I speak evil of President Clinton and others in government. I speak evil of these people because of what I know naturally. Because of the things the news reports tell of the government. God puts them in office and I speak evil of His appointees because I knew not why He put them there.

Dan 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest (degenerate, evil, vile, wicked) of men.

I know now though. He is judging America for gross disobedience just as He judged Israel with wicked rulers in the O.T.

This is different from earnestly contending for the faith (Jude 1:3) We are to expose false teachers and warn of wolves in sheep's clothing

2 Tim 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Without natural affection -hardhearted towards kindred. Parents leaving or abandoning, abusing and killing children. Children killing parents.
Trucebreakers- relentless, ruthless, unmerciful, ferocious, pitiless, cruel.
False accusers -slanderers-(Royce Cockeral at Gateway Baptist church
Incontinent -powerless, without self control
Fierce- savage
Despisers of those that are good-hostile to virtue

2 Tim 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Heady-rash, reckless, careless, thoughtless, inconsiderate, rushing headlong into things without thinking.
Highminded- to inflate with self-conceit: be lifted up with pride
Lovers of pleasures-voluptuous, hedonistic, sensual, stimulating, arousing pleasure

2 Tim 3:5 Having a form (the appearance of) of godliness,(holiness-piety) but denying (rejecting)the power (miraculous power of proof) thereof: from such turn away.

2 Tim 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly (foolish) women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

2 Tim 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Sort of like Eve. She wanted to learn how to become as a god. (Gen 1:5) The Devil tempted the weaker vessel.

2 Tim 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate (corrupt, immoral) concerning the faith. (Exodus chapter 7)

2 Tim 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

Their tricks will be made known to the children of God. They will go no further that corrupting the minds of foolish women laded with sins, for they will not corrupt the minds of the elect.

2 Tim 3:10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

They can't fool Timothy because he fully knows the doctrine of Christ that Paul taught him. Timothy also know of Paul's Christian Walk.

2 Tim 3:11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

Timothy also knows of the persecutions Paul suffered because of his Christian walk.

2 Tim 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

A Christian who is not intimidated into silence will suffer persecution. Some much more than others.

2 Tim 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax (increase) worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

2 Tim 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

Timothy is to remember his teachings and he is to remember who it was that taught him. (Paul) The character of the teacher and witness is important to the work of the gospel.

2 Tim 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

God and man's need of salvation is nothing new to Timothy. He was taught the Holy Scripture from a child.

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

ALL SCRIPTURE-You would be surprised to hear of how many so-called ministers of the Word believe only PART of the scripture.

2 Tim 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: This can make the minister complete, with nothing lacking in his teachings. He will be fully equipped as a teacher.
