Where is the Evidence of Christianity Today?
by Andy Neckar

Christ-likeness. Where is it.? Where did it go? Where is the "holiness" and the "saintliness" of the Christian in the world of today?

The religious churches of the world today want to SEE God working in their lives. They want to FEEL a religious experience. Most of the folks that profess to be Christians are no longer satisfied in the HOPE of God. (Rom 15:13) They don't want the joy and peace of believing in HOPE. They want a religion they can SEE and FEEL-NOW.

The religious crowd of professed Christians wants what religion can give them NOW. But what does God's Word say about this "experience driven religion"?Rom 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

They refuse to patiently wait for the hope of salvation

Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:13 will never do anything for the folks in the church of religiosity. They want much more than "hope", for the future through the power of the Holy Spirit. They want to see "signs and wonders" NOW.These folks don't seem to be interested in the hope of eternal life.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

These members of the church of selfism are ate up with the "I want its" and "I must have its" RIGHT NOW.Folks, people want to see miracles. They say, show us signs and wonders and we will believe. But will they? Dave Hunt wrote in the August 1999 issue of the Berean Call newsletter that it is often "claimed that no one can believe the gospel without accompanying miracles" He goes on to say that God has provided far more evidence than anyone needs, both in creation all around us and in out consciences. No people ever had such overwhelming evidence as Israel. They saw the Red Sea parting before them, and then swallowing up their pursuers. They heard God speaking with an audible voice from Mount Sinai in concert with earthquake and fire on its summit. They had a literal pillar of fire by night and of cloud by day to guide their steps, and shoes and clothes which never wore out. They had a gift of heaven-sent food every morning, ect. ect. Yet no people were ever so unbelieving and rebellious. (Ps 81:11; Isaiah 6:5)

Christ did many miracles, but many still did not believe. The problem is not any lack of evidence on God's part. The problem is in the human heart.

John 5:36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

What are we producing? Over forty years ago, A.W. Tozer wrote in his book titled, "Christianity Is No Longer Producing Saintliness", that, "it is possible for a whole generation of Christians to be victims of poor teachings, low moral standards and unscriptural or extra-scriptural doctrines, resulting in stunted growth and retarded development. It is little less than stark tragedy that an individual Christian may pass from youth to old age in a state of suspended growth and all his life be unaware of it….Clearly we must begin to produce better Christians! We must insist on New Testament sainthood for out converts, nothing less. We must lead them into a state of purity, fiery love, separation from the world, and poured-out devotion to Christ."

Where are the spirit filled Christians who should be assembling together at the church services, and who should be having serious prayer and Bible study? Where are those who should consistently be seeking to win others to Christ and who are more concerned about holiness than their own personal happiness?

Believers gathered in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ should live under the authority of that Name and not under some Convention or Association's guidelines.

Where are the Christians that are different from the world? Different, not for the sake of being different, but because they are not of the world. Where are the Christians that have a different mindset from those of the heathen.

The apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Ephesians.

Eph 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Paul goes on to say that if we have heard Christ and been taught by Him, we should put off the former "old man" and be renewed in the spirit of our mind, by putting on the "new man".(Eph 4:21-24)

Where are the Christians which have put to use that which they had learned after hearing of the Lord Jesus Christ, into improving their lives? They ought to be "different" and not act like and think like the pagan non-Christian.

It is all in the mind. It is the mind that gives understanding, and it is the mind that gives direction to our walk. Are we to walk after the Gentiles (heathen) or after the Spirit? In this world Christians are constantly bombarded by how "the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind." Culture, entertainment, philosophy--all of this is contrary to the "truth [that] is in Jesus." (Eph 4:21 The believer is in this world, not in isolation, but working in the world's environment, but we are not to be of the world's "thinking". If the world's "thinking" creeps into our minds, it soon creeps into our "actions". The will of the Spirit and the will of the flesh is controlled by the mind.

1 Cor 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Where are the Christians who are living for eternity and not for "now"? New Testament Assemblies need New Testament Christians. Lets preach New Testament principles and make some.

Judgment fray:
by Andy Neckar

[Heading of an article taken from the religion page of the Fort Worth Star Telegram-8/27/99]

Who will be saved, and who will be `Left Behind'? A series of best-selling books has believers and nonbelievers flipping pages to find out.

Folks, you probable have heard of the books and videos made and written by supposed Christians to warn those who are "left behind" at the rapture, explaining to them what really happened and presenting to them the gospel of Christ that they formally rejected.

The article says: "The driving drama behind `Left Behind' is that after the Rapture, it will still be possible for people to convert to Christianity and save their souls." "The series heroes are two men with movie-star names who've been left behind: Rayford Steele, a 747 pilot who dismisses his born-again wife's end-times talk until she disappears with everyone else, and Cameron "Buck" Williams, a skeptical 30-year-old magazine writer assigned to the disappearances."

This last paragraph confirms the series is about Christ rejecters. These people have hear the gospel and rejected it. NOW- this is what God says about them. II Th 2:6-12 "And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his comin Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

If these people wouldn't believe God, what makes these "Left Behind" authors think people will believe them. Are they more powerful than God? Those who heard the TRUTH and received not the TRUTH, God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. They won't believe the "Left Behind" series. GOD WON'T LET THEM.

Only those who have not beforehand heard the gospel will be able to understand, and if they believe, "only these" can be saved during the tribulation.

"End-times" talk is not the power of God unto salvation. These new evangelicals can talk themselves blue in the face and their talk won't save a soul. These people will have an "end-times delusion" sent upon them by God Himself. No more that you can remove the indwelling Holy Spirit of God from His children you cannot remove the end-time delusion from those that "received not the love of the 'truth', that they might be saved".

Folks, a lot of money has been made from gullible Christians by the counterfeit Christians on this Y2K survival business. The same is happening on this end-times business.

These self-styled prophecy experts certainly know that the hot-button issue in the Christian community is doomsday, end-of-the-world, Armageddon. They are riding the crest of a wave and making a lot of money

An Amazing Prediction
(Excerpted and adapted from "The Cornerstone Challenge")

About 100 years ago William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army said, "The chief danger of the 20th century will be: RELIGION WITHOUT THE HOLY GHOST, FORGIVENESS WITHOUT REPENTANCE, SALVATION WITHOUT REGENERATION, AND HEAVEN WITHOUT HELL." Now, I am sure that Booth was no prophet but his prediction has certainly come to pass!

RELIGION WITHOUT THE HOLY GHOST: Christianity without the Holy Ghost abounds everywhere! Many a professing Christian has nothing more than "a form of godliness but denying the power thereof." (2 Tim 3:5) These days we mostly see what men can do - not what God can do.

FORGIVENESS WITHOUT REPENTANCE: We see few repentant sinners today and fewer repentant saints! Someone said the three hardest words to pronounce in the English language are 'I was wrong." Repentance is more than being sorry for your sins, but I would like to see some who were sorry.

SALVATION WITHOUT REGENERATION: We have professions of faith, but few changed lives. There are decisions but it is hard to believe that many are genuine for few evidence any real change (II Cor.5:17).

HEAVEN WITHOUT HELL: Everybody believes in heaven, and very few in hell. Even in some fundamental circles, belief in hell is professed but it is not preached. Many act as if they don't believe in something its not true. God says, preach the Word in season and out of season. (2 Tim 4:2) The time has come when they will not endure sound doctrine.(2 Tim 4:3)

New Evangelicalism
(Excerpted and adapted from the conclusion of the book "The New Evangelicalism" by Rolland C. Starr)

New Evangelicalism is promoting "ANOTHER JESUS". The Jesus many of them preach now is not the Jesus of the Bible. Their Jesus is increasingly someone who can redirect your life, sort of a psychologist rather than the Crucified Lord who is coming again to judge this rebellious old world. Their Jesus is a revolutionary who wants to reform society. He is pictured as a savior of society and restorer of human dignity. He is not absolute master, but a nice guy who can help you get more out of life.

Tozer once said of New Evangelicalism that, "They have a new cross that coddles and caters to old Adam while the old cross brought death to him". The old gospel that was "once delivered to the saints" (Jude 1:3) is based solely on the blood of Christ shed for sin. It is based on His death, burial and resurrection. (1 Cor 15:1-4) It is by grace through faith alone, and not by doing the best you can, accepting Jesus into your life or following Him. It is not by saying a prayer.

This "new" gospel, "now delivered to the world", which is "another gospel" (2 Cor 11:4) ignores the depravity of man and the old rugged cross. It knows nothing of death for the sinner. It presents a smooth, shiny cross, which helps build a better world. It's message promises satisfaction and speaks of "life with Christ" none of which can save from sin and hell.

Did you ever stop to think that a distorted gospel or half a gospel is not THE gospel? They may get decisions, but that does not necessarily mean that the "commitment makers" are saved. New Evangelicalism may have a grand appearance and appeal to many in this world. They may "look down" with disdain at the Fundamentalists. New Evangelicalism may look good, but it can't fly. It is earthbound. This "new gospel" will never enable anyone to "meet the Lord in the air". (1 Thess 4:17)

By Their Fruits You Shall Know Them.
( Excerpts from an article from "Religion Today" 8/24/99)

The temptation to indulge in pornography, and become addicted, "is increasingly a problem" among Christian leaders, Steve Watters, an Internet research analyst for Focus on the Family, told Religion Today. Many cards, letters, and calls that come into the Colorado Springs-based ministry reflect the problem, he said, and cable television and the Internet are two primary sources of temptation.

"Of all the calls we receive from Christian leaders, over 10% are about pornography. Also, we believe that the problem may be more widespread than these numbers indicate because many don't realize they have a problem or just don't want to make it known" Christian leaders are "especially vulnerable" to pornography, Watters said. "Pastors as a group can be drained in their role as shepherd. After a long weekend of giving, there is no one around on Monday morning to talk to. Now something that has been off-limits is available privately. It seems like a safe area to explore. Some justify their exploring by wanting to know"

[Editor] Why is this so much a problem especially among "Christian leaders"? My belief is that the sheep are more moral than the shepherd, and the main reason for this is because most shepherds are seminary students who were taught to "question" the Word of God rather than "learn" the Word of God. I really believe that 90% of the Bible Colleges dumb down the seminary students who entered more solid in the faith that they were at graduation after they sat under the teachings the liberal "rejecters of the faith once delivered to the saints". They teach him "unsound words" and make him twofold more the child of hell than themselves. (Matt 23:15)

Hey--if a Christian leader views pornography and don't know he has a problem, he most likely DOES NOT have the Holy Spirit of God indwelling in him to tell him so. I do believe that he just does not want to make it know, because knowledge of this "habit of sinning", which the apostle James says a Christian overcomes by the grace of God, will rip off the outer garments of this "sheep", and guess what his "real clothing" identifies him as?

One last comment. How can the viewing of pornography seem like a safe area to explore? How can the regenerated righteous soul of a "true Christian" feel safe in habitually sinning? Some justify their exploring by wanting to "SIN" is what this all boils down to. By their fruits you shall know them, and folks, it takes FIRE to make things BOIL.
Chuck Colson's Confusing Doublespeak
(Excerpted from Religion Today 8/23/99)

Christianity is a "Jesus and me" relationship – but that's just part of it, Chuck Colson says. It also is a way of looking at all of life and talking to non-Christians about any number of things, including education, business, abortion and euthanasia, politics, the economy, films, and television, he says.

"We shortchange Christianity by making it simply a relationship with Jesus," Colson said recently. "Christianity is much more than that. The Bible doesn't begin with John 3:16. To make John 3:16 the centerpiece of the biblical message is like opening a great novel in the middle. This has been the limitation of the evangelical church." ...Saving souls is the first purpose of Christians, but another responsibility is the "cultural commission given to us at the time of creation," he said. "We are to cultivate, and to till, and to subdue creation."

[Editor] Gonna comment here now. Listen, "Christianity is "all about" a "saving relationship" with the "Lord Jesus Christ". The "whole reason" for the Bible, the Old and the New Testament, is to manifest God to the world and His Son Jesus Christ, for "only one reason", and that is to "call out a people for Himself". Christ came to reconcile the world to His Father, and in the Great Commission He gave the Christian orders to do the same. The Genesis account of cultivating, and tilling, and subduing creation is in "no way" connected to Christianity. THIS is the end times gospel that will be the reason that Jesus said: "… when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:8) THIS is the SOCIAL GOSPEL so popular here in these end-times.

Colson says, "can we rebuild a society when it has been damaged?" Christians can be God's agents in building a new Christian culture, he says. To "re-Christianize the culture" would mean "being salt and light and bringing Christian truth back into a dominant role in the culture."

[Editor] Christ did not come to "rebuild society" He came to "save sinners" Christians are not to build a "Christian culture" we are to build a "Christian Church", that is a local body of believers. Will TRUE Christianity ever be a dominant role in the world culture. Let me tell you this. It "never was" and "it never will be". Notice what God says in these scriptures.

Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Rom 9:27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Now, God is preaching a remnant, that is a few, and Colson is preaching dominance. Who is right?

Colson tells the story about "how the Irish saved civilization." In the Dark Ages, when Christianity had been driven off the European mainland by the barbarians, Irish monks preserved great literature, learning from the Greeks, philosophy, and music. They built schools that were outposts of civilization. Then as the barbarians' hold on Europe weakened, the monks sent missionaries to Scotland, then to the continent to re-Christianize Europe.

[Editor] What other GREAT ERROR is Colson preaching here. How hard has the spirit of ecumenism taken hold of this man? How terribly has his eyes been blinder to God's Truth?

Who were these "Irish monks" that sent missionaries to "re-Christianize" Scotland and the European continent? Saint PATRICK introduced mainstream Latin (Roman Catholic) Christianity into the country (Ireland) in the 5th century AD. During the 6th and 7th centuries the Irish monasteries were great centers of learning, sending out such missionaries as saints COLUMBA and COLUMBAN to the rest of Europe. What was for most of Europe the Dark Ages was for Ireland the golden age. In the 5th century, Saint Ninian (Roman Catholic saint) from Briton missionized in Scotland. In 597 Saint AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY began to convert the pagan English and to gradually organize the English (RC) church. (Tidbits of info gleaned from "Multimedia Encyclopedia")

The Roman Catholic Church was not then, and is not now a "Christian" religion as Colson claims.

"The church can go one of two ways in the next millennium," Colson said. "It can become very seeker-sensitive, recruit people and help them weather the storms of life, give them basic survival tools" such as going to church and Bible study. Meanwhile, "the world decays around you."

So far so good. Okay? BUT:

Colson goes on to say, "Or Christians can decide that they want to be like the Irish monks and 'take Christian truths' into every area of life until we make a difference for Christ and see the culture transformed."

What Christian Truths does Roman Catholicism hold? The RC gospel preaches a salvation through all of these names under heaven. Jesus Christ, the RC church and her sacraments, Mary and the saints and good works, prayer and personal suffering, and so on-and-on-and-on. Where she stops nobody knows.

The Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic doctrine asserting that MARY, the mother of Jesus, was preserved from the effects of ORIGINAL SIN (The sin nature we inherit from Adam) from the first moment of her conception. (Mary was born "without sin" and remained sinless) The doctrine was defined as a dogma binding on Catholics by Pope Pius IX in the papal bull Ineffabilis Deus in 1854.

THE FIRST VATICAN COUNCIL (1869-70) declared the Roman Catholic Pope was "infallible" (inability to err on central issues of the Catholic faith)

As late as 1950 the Assumption of Mary "bodily" into heaven was declared a dogma (doctrine requirement) of the Roman Catholic faith by Pope Pius XII in 1950.

GOD says THIS about salvation.

Acts 4:12 neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven (Jesus Christ), whereby we must be saved.

Chuck Colson and the other "New Evangelicals" speak with forked tongues.

The Lord has really been blessing this ministry. I receive so many letters from folks telling how the Web Site and the Newsletter and the News Service Articles have helped, encouraged, or enlightened them. Praise God for allowing me to work for Him. Instead of condemning me to hell, which was where I was going practicing religion in the RC church, He saved me "and" put me to work for Him in a small way.

Community Bible Chapel has not grown since I last reported, but we, (nine of us Neckars, and soon to be 10) meet each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening.

Monday we held a "Believers Baptism". This was held in Lake Granbury at the dam area. There were 11 of us present to witness this new child of God in his 50's "openly acknowledge" God's only begotten Son Jesus Christ, as his Savior. The outing was wonderful. There was a great time of fellowship afterward. How great is our God that does so much for us. We all felt good spiritually and physically. PRAISE GOD!

This is how the baptism went.

I am going to ask you for a statement of faith.

Do you believe that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God?

Do you agree that you are one of the ALL that have sinned?

Do you understand that God says sin condemns mankind to an eternal hell?

Do you understand that God sent a Savior to save man from his sins and that person is Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

Do you understand that no matter how hard you try, that you and no church of any kind can save you?

Do you understand that salvation requires repentance (that is a change of mind about our sin and ourselves) toward God AND faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ?

Do you publicly state that you have repented and placed your trust in Jesus Christ ALONE for your salvation?

Do you understand that this baptism is only an outward picture of the previous inward working of the Holy Spirit: and that you were saved the moment you believed on the Name of Jesus Christ?

Then on the statement of faith that you just made-before God-- and before these witnesses and as commanded in Matt 28:19

One thing about this little fellowship in my home is that we don't have to put up with compromise and error of God's HOLY Word. We don't have to sit and listen to "men of the church" report on the wonders of a Promise Keeper meeting they attended. We don't have to put up with sharing an "Easter Sunrise Service", with the UMC and other denominations at the City Park, or hold hands with the various denominations and pray together on National Prayer Day, not knowing what gender god they are praying to.

See you next month if Jesus Tarries.
We Must Earnestly Contend For The Faith-Jude 1:3
