1. Working and Supporting the Work.

Working and Supporting the Work.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

They “continued consistently”, (not here today-gone tomorrow or “occasionally) steadly-actively-tirelessly.

In what?  In the things the apostles taught them AND in fellowship, AND in the “remembrance service” (Lord’s Supper)  AND in prayers.

What did the apostles teach the new converts?

Matt 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

We MUST FIND TIME for Christ.   WE MUST TAKE TIME for Christ on a REGULAR basis.  THERE IS enough time in a day.

We have been offered so great a salvation. We must NEVER forget the One who saved us, and if we neglect we DO FORGET.

Look at the Muslims.  They TAKE TIME to kneel and pray facing Mecca THREE TIMES a day. They work for a living and STILL find time for their god.

We are told to CONTINUALLY and STEADLY live our faith.

We are told to NOT FORGET to assemble ourselves together.  EVEN MORE SO in these ‘last days” (Heb 10:25)

We are told to “provoke” motivate-inspire each other unto love and good works. (Heb 10:24)

WHY are we to do this?
Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.

We are told to “finance” the work of the Lord’s ministers.

We are instructed to give bountifully of our substance. (goods-assets-material things that God has blessed us with.) This is a “privilege” of contributing to the work of the Lord or the needs of poor saints. Christians are to put aside weekly a portion of their income for such purposes according as God had prospered them. (1 Cor. 16:2.) The proportion of their giving depended on their individual exercise of heart and love for the Saviour. Giving was voluntary, and it needed the right motive to be acceptable. To God.

Prov 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

I buy the Truth by giving of my TIME, not money.  I STUDY to show myself approved.  When I get the results of my TIME IN STUDY, I do not SELL the Truth.

The support of evangelists, missionaries and other workers is a privilege of all Christians and Christian assemblies, but the methods employed should be in accordance with Scriptural principles. Workers do not receive salaries from any church or missionary society, but must be dependent on God They must keep themselves free from the control of any organized body, if they are to know the control of the Holy Spirit. Their dependence upon God for their material or financial support is a healthy discipline and keeps them from becoming high-minded. It also keeps them free to minister the Word of God as those who shall give account to Him and not to men. And as they prove God faithful in His dealings with them, they are the better fitted to minister in fellowship with Him.

We ALL receive gifts of the Spirit.  One receives the gift of teaching/preaching and leading.  The one “working” in this manner is not necessarily to be expected to give as much as the one receiving the “benefits” of the work.

We ALL give in proportion. Some give of their TIME in WORKING more that others and some GIVE of their FINANCES more than others. (See “The Truth About Tithing”, linked from the Front Page)

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure (degree-proportion) of faith.

Rom 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

Rom 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Rom 12:6 Having then “gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us”, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, (insist-encourage - urge) on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; (watchfulness-carefulness-care) he that sheweth mercy, (compassion-sympathy-kindness) with cheerfulness.

Rom 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation.(lack of respect) Abhor (hate) that which is evil; cleave (cling-stick) to that which is good.

Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned (fond of-neighborly-loving-warmhearted) one to another with brotherly love; in honour (esteem-dignity) preferring one another; (choosing the brethren over the lost)

Rom 12:11 Not slothful (lazy)   in business; fervent (excited-passionate) in spirit; (in mind) serving the Lord;

Rom 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

Rom 12:13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

Rom 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Rom 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Rom 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend (yield-support) to men of low estate. (depressed-cast down)Be not wise in your own conceits. (don’t be conceited-better than thou attitude)

Rom 12:17 Recompense (repay)   to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. (keep hold of good things-look after-tend to-oversee)

Rom 12:18 “If it be possible”, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place (yield-give in)  unto wrath: (anger-rage-fury) for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Rom 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Another radical liberal has replaced Melvin G. Talbert, the retired United Methodist bishop over California and Nevada. Talbert’s replacement, Beverly Shamana, adopted her unusual name to resemble the word shaman after her divorce in 1979. Shamana calls God a "she," and in her spare time she makes gourd figures that "connect me to the ancient past, the faraway past, the pre-Christian past as well as into the future."

Like Talbert, Shamana supports full acceptance of homosexuality: "I certainly am in favor of the full sexuality that God has given us. I don’t draw the line between how people express their sexuality" (AFA Journal, 10/00).

[CNV Editor]  Does it matter whether this woman draws a line between how people express their sexuality?  I know that God draws such a line, and brother, I do not wish to cross that line.  I will stand before “Christ” one day and not before a “creature”.

Another reason to COME OUT OF THE UMC, before it’s too late and you, too, receive of her plagues. (Rev 18:4)

Irish Catholics are urging the Vatican to drop seven passages from Scripture readings because they are so often misconstrued as "anti-woman" that they may contribute to a climate of abuse. Two commissions of Ireland’s Conference of Catholic Bishops made the appeal during a joint statement on domestic violence.

U.S. Bishops voiced a similar concern in 1991, prompting the Vatican to provide optional versions of readings from Colossians and Ephesians, minus the contentious passages. The disputed passages include admonitions for wives to submit to their husbands (Christian News, 9/18/00).

[Editor] If you read the news, you are aware of the controversy the SBC caused by amending the Baptist Faith & Message to include that wives should graciously submit to their husbands. Read my article “Baptist Brideism & the Elite Elect” in the on-line May 1998 CNV Newsletter. It lists more similarities between the Landmark Baptist Churches and Roman Catholicism.

The USDA has stopped sending surplus food to a shelter in Memphis because it requires homeless people to attend chapel after Sunday dinner. The 55-year-old Memphis Union Mission refused to compromise and now must find a third of its food budget somewhere else. The mission serves over 16,000 free meals every month, but it insists that the Great Commission comes before feeding the hungry.

Other local ministries, like the United Methodist soup kitchen and the Salvation army, have already gone to optional chapel services in order to qualify for government help (World, 9/30/00).

[Editor]   What else can I say?  THIS says it ALL.  If you are in there-GET OUT- can’t you feel the heat?

The Harry Potter children’s fiction series is fueling young people’s fascination with witchcraft in England—so much so that the Pagan Federation has had to appoint a youth officer to handle the flood of inquiries. At least one school in England has banned J. K. Rowling’s novels about magic and wizardry (Charisma, 10/00).

On Sunday, September 3, All Saints Church in Guilford, England, held a special Harry Potter service—right down to Hogwarts banners and wizards in pointy caps. The Right Reverend David Pecks, who attended "out of curiosity," defended the service. The church, he said, must be more creative given the "competitive pressure on leisure time" (Christian News, 9/25/00).

[Editor] When the WORLD has more discernment that the CHURCH, whose church do you think it is.  A Synagogue of Satan perhaps? (Rev 2:9; 3:9)

Once primarily purveyors of Bibles and books expounding Christian thought, many stores operating in the $3 billion Christian retailing industry increasingly push "product." The proportion of items like jewelry, collectibles, greeting cards, clothing, and art has been rising since 1993. Back then, such products accounted for less than one-third of total sales in Christian stores, according to the Christian retail organization CBA. By 1997, such items made up nearly half of retailers’ total annual sales. Critics say the peddling of Christian trinkets trivializes the name of God and dilutes the market for literature that honors Him. "It’s not the coffee cup or the praying hands or the picture of Jesus on the wall that changes lives," says John Cully, owner of Evangelical Bible Bookstore in San Diego. "It’s God-honoring literature" (World, 7/1/00).

[Editor] In many cases the “fruit” of a “professing” Christian is religious trinkets.  This will be the ONLY semblance of their professed Christianity.  Watch and see if “good works” (Eph 2:10) accompany the trinkets, and then, all “may be” well.

The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice has come out in support of stem cell research. The experiments rely on cells from destroyed human embryos. The coalition said the potential for life-saving cures should be paramount. A statement from the board of directors concluded, "Prohibition . . . would elevate the showing of respect to human embryos above that of helping persons whose pain and suffering might be alleviated due to the knowledge gained from studying embryonic cells" (Christian News, 9/25/00).

The National Institute of Health announced on August 23 that for the first time it would allow federal funding for research with stem cells. These cells are removed from week-old human embryos, destroying the embryos. President Clinton insisted that the scientific promise of stem-cell research was "breathtaking," and added, "I think we cannot walk away from the potential to save and improve lives."

A 1996 bill forbade federal funding of "research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death." The new NIH guidelines skirt the law by forbidding recipients of federal funds to dissect the embryos themselves (World, 9/9/00).

[Editor]   Get that?  Prohibition”-if stem cell research is prohibited/banned/forbidden it would send a message that “just maybe” the unborn child should be considered a human being and therefore protected.

Murder the “unborn” to improved the lives of those that miraculously survived the womb. Notice who “approves” of this “murder”, besides our “breathtaking” (takes my breath away-his stench kills me) President. The “Religious” Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

Religion and the world have teamed up.  THEY ARE ONE.

Leaders of the Baptist World Alliance held a General Council meeting in Cuba, July 3-9. Billy Kim, president of BWA, encouraged Baptists worldwide to emphasize prayer, mission, and evangelism. He emphasized, "This is what unites us as Baptists, not doctrine." The BWA report said, "Again and again at all our BWA meetings Kim emphasized one word. ‘Unity! Unity! Unity!’ "

Kim gave the opening address at Billy Graham’s recent Amsterdam 2000 conference. In years past he has spoken for Jerry Falwell, John MacArthur, and the National Religious Broadcasters (Calvary Contender, 9/15/00).

[Editor] The saving “Gospel of Christ” walks “hand in hand” with the “Doctrine of Christ”.(Christian walk after salvation) ‘Nough said.

Pope John Paul II and his cohorts put on what was dubbed a “Roman Catholic Church’s Youth Jamboree” last month  (Nov. 2000) with a reported 1.5 million in attendance. The Italian media dubbed them as “Papa boys” and “Papa girls”.  The word Papa is one of the titles given the pope.

The pope had earlier made the announcement that during the whole year 2000 he would have a “holy door” open at St. Peter’s Basicilica and anyone coming to Rome as a “pilgrim” could have their sins forgiven by passing through that door.  During the two-day festival, 20,000 people passed through that “Holy Door” each hour.

If anybody failed to get through, they need not worry, for a huge open air “confessional” was set up where those whose sins were not washed away by passing through the “Holy Door” could go to the confessional where 2000 priests, fluent in 50 languages, listened to their confessors and dispensed absolutions day and night. The definition of “absolution” is “setting free from guilt/sin or penalty: forgiveness

What a tragedy. Here is a great multitude of people, most of them youngsters, who are told that merely walking through some door called “holy” or whispering their sins into the ear of some man, (who himself knows nothing about a new birth) that he has the power to forgive their sins and send them on their was pardoned. (From the magazine “The Voice in the Wilderness”-not to be confused with "A Voice in the Wilderness - Oasis of Biblical Truth" by Paul Becker)****************************************************

General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army once said: “I consider that the chief danger that will confront the church in the twentieth century will be religion without the Holy Spirit, Christianity without Christ; forgiveness with regeneration; morality without God, and heaven without a hell.” (From the magazine “The Voice in the Wilderness”-not to be confused with "A Voice in the Wilderness - Oasis of Biblical Truth" by Paul Becker)***********************************************************

Just two days after the first nun opened the U.S. House of Representatives with a prayer, the Roman Catholic House chaplain invited a Hindu priest (for the first time ever) from Ohio to offer the prayer, Sept. 14th (9/25 Christian News) Guest chaplains are recommended by members of Congress.  Farewell, Christian America, when our leaders seek wisdom from false gods  (From the magazine “The Voice in the Wilderness”-not to be confused with "A Voice in the Wilderness - Oasis of Biblical Truth" by Paul Becker)

There seems to be a determined effort on the part of radical feminists and even some liberal hymnbook and Bible publishers to remove any word that denotes male gender. Even God is referred to as “mother” and even “she” by these “ gnat stranglers” and “camel swallowers”. (Matt 23:24)  Here are some of the problems thay face. Not long ago a few radical students in Amherst College wanted to change the word “woman” to “W-O-M-Y-N” thus to take the M-A_N out. The medical world asks what they will do with the word “hernia” for there is a H-E- there.  The following portrays their folly.

When the gender isn’t known, why must it ever be
That the person spoken of is always called a “HE”?
Though Women’s Lib has tried to change what Adam started
When we examine certain words, it makes us feel downhearted.
“Chair Person” is a word we’re called, the world’s current
But the gender is not changed, the word still ends S-O-N.

So we call ourselves “Females,” it really isn’t fair,
Look closely at the spelling; the “male” is still there.
We’ll be “ladies” then you say, but that is just as bad,
The “male” idea is present still, that word begins with “L-A-D.

Well, I’ll call myself a “human”, oh what a bitter pill
No matter what I call myself, that word is with us still.
Although I do not like the word, I guess I’ll be a “madam”.
On no! Here we go again, we’re back to that word “Adam”.

A mother had been lecturing her small son, stressing the fact that we are in this world to help others. He considered this for some time and then asked soberly, “What are the others here for”?

Long ago I ceased to count heads.  Truth is usually in the minority in this evil world.  I have faith in the Lord Jesus for myself--a faith burned into me as with a hot iron.  I thank God, what I believe I shall believe, even if I believe it alone."  Charles H. Spurgeon

Not really much to say this letter. We are still meeting at the Chapel in my home and the Ministry is going well. I am still preaching at the First Monday Trade Days in Weatherford, once one a month. The assemble here at the Chapel is getting ready to go “door knocking” here in Hico as soon as the weather warms up some.  All the literature is ready and I hope we are.

Actually I guess we are going “harassing” as this “guest” says on the Discussion Forum.

[Discussion Forum Guest]
"The reason "Christians" are so "hated" (do I detect a victim mindset??) is because of the topic of this discussion....Witnessing! If Christians (Fundies, that is. Not all Christians practice "Witnessing") simply minded their own business and let others be, then there wouldn't exist this resentment toward you spiritual elitists who believe yours is the "only way." Stop harassing others because that's what "witnessing" is...HARASSMENT!! "

Some of us are into “double harassment”, ‘cause we “witness” AND “bark” (Isaiah 56:10) How many people like a barking dog that barks and barks and just won’t shut up.  One day soon the world will have enough of those of us that “harass” and “bark” and there’re gonna “shut us up for good”.

In the meantime, We Must Earnestly Contend For The Faith.
