Bible Holiness
[As preached at Community Bible Chapel by Elder Andy Neckar]

1 Pet 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

The word "holy" comes from the Greek word hagios (hag'-ee-os); It means sacred, pure, morally blameless and consecrated. It means we become like Christ and Christ is God, so we become like God in purity, but not in power.

God is separated from His creation, and so are born again believers.

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Since believers are "like Him" and He is holy, believers are to be holy. Holiness frightens some people. It is hand for some to understand the holiness of God and the command to be holy "like Him".

Yet holiness is the key to a life of spiritual health and happiness.

We often hear people say of a person that he is "holier than thou", and this is true. Like it or not. This is true.

In Matt 5:8, Christ said, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."

Blessed are the "holy" in heart, for they are going to heaven

Consider the essence, or basic nature of Spiritual holiness.v.16

We are to have the nature of God. God is "holy" and God is "love" and God "hates" sin.

The believers holiness is based in our position in Christ. At the moment of salvation we are placed in Christ, and set apart from self. The old life we had "in Adam", to a new life "in Christ".

Rom 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Holiness is the condition of our spiritual life. The word " hagios (hag'-ee-os) " indicates something awe-inspiring, full of awe, because the object spoken of belongs to God.

Holiness is the consecration of our spiritual life. In the Old Testament, anything "set apart" for divine use was considered holy.

Isa 52:11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD.

Depart; go aside-separate. Any life "set apart" is likewise considered holy.

The signification of Spiritual Holiness is laid out in verse 15.

1 Pet 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

Believers are to be holy in all manner of behavior. We are to be holy-pure-blameless, in all manner of action, motives and speech. This holiness is progressing. It is on-going and on-growing as we grow in faith.

Believers sustain this holiness by their earthly life being placed in Christ by the Father. See-God is not dumb, He KNOWS we cannot be holy of our own selves, so He places us in Christ who IS holy of His Own Self.

This holiness is ours by imputation (given credit for-by implication) through Christ.

1 Cor 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Let me explain how this "imputation" works. You take an orphan child. Okay? You want to adopt that child. That child was not born to you. It was not born into your family. So what do you do. You go before a judge, and that judge "places" that child into your family. He "gives" that child to you.

See- a judge has power to do this. The people gave to him that power. Now that child has been placed into your family. It is "implied" by the world that this child is "yours". You even give it "your" name.

Same way with holiness or righteousness. We weren't born with holiness. Holiness is not ours. It is "implied" that we are holy because we were "placed" in a "Holy Family".

We become a "member" of the 'Family" of God. How? Jesus Christ is the SON of God and God places us IN CHRIST. We become a member of the body of Christ.

Now, this spiritual adoption is much better that the physical adoption of a child, because the Spiritual adoption is a "born again" adoption. It is not so much an adoption as it is being born into the Family of God. An earthly judge cannot cause an orphan child to be born into the adoptive parents' family.

A holy life is a life preserved by Christ.
1Thes 5:23-24 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

This holiness will be made "perfect" at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Rapture of the saints-dead and alive. We are "becoming" like Him now, but then we "will" be like Him.

The believer will show signs, or an expression of Scriptural Holiness. This is holiness portrayed. It is illustrated.. It is shown. It is manifested, or made obvious.

This holiness is a life of development. We grow in faith. We graduate from the milk of the Word to the meat of the Word. Instead of being taught continually we are to become teachers.

Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

This holiness is a life of discipline. Yieldness must come before fruitfulness. It is because we reverse this order that our blessing and divine approval never lasts.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Rom 1:13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

The Christian must "yield" to Christ before he can produce fruit. Yielding to Christ is loving Him. Loving Him is this.

I Jn 5:2-3 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

So- what is "loving God"? Is it living a "holy life"? No! Is it doing "good works"? No! Is it "going to church"? No!

LOVING GOD IS KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS and this is more that just the TEN commandments

God positions (places) a Christian in holiness, BUT a Christian cannot be holy in position and unholy in practice, and expect God's blessings. Neither can he live a fruitful life.

SALT-Spiritual Malnutrition and Sorry Christians
By Andy Neckar

The word "salt" is where our word "salary" comes from. Back in the Roman Rule, the Roman soldier often got paid in salt, as salt, before refrigeration, was a very valuable commodity. Hence, the old saying, "he is not worth his salt". He is not worth his salary, that is his wages. He's good for nothing.

Salt was not only used to flavor food but to preserve foodstuff.

There is Biblical reference to salt as a preservative.
Lev 2:13 And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the "salt of the covenant" of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.

Num 18:19 All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a "covenant of salt" for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee.

2 Chr 13:5 Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a "covenant of salt"?

A SALT COVENANT. An "everlasting" Covenant that God made with Abraham. A Covenant that will be PRESERVED FOREVER.

There is Biblical reference to salt as a flavoring.
Matt 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Mark 9:50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Savour" and "saltness" is in reference to the flavoring attributes, or nature of salt.

Luke 14:34-35 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

If salt has lost it's flavoring attributes it is not worth a, "you know what".

Col 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

People will work on their jobs and speak OFTEN of "fellow employees" of not doing their job. They will speak of "fellow employees" of not being worth their salt/wages. They will speak of "sorry workers that should know better". They speak of them in "disgust". They want "no part of them". They will not be identified with them IN ANY WAY, and if they quit or get fired, it is GOOD RIDDENCE. The company didn't lose much of nothing and THEY sure didn't. Like the old song says, THANK GOD AND GREYHOUND THERE'RE GONE

I mean, this really bothers them to work with, or alongside a "sorry worker". But these SAME PEOPLE, who profess to be Christian, will tolerate a fellow SORRY CHRISTIAN. WHY?? Don't ask me. I don't know. I DO KNOW that this is a "sorry state of affairs" and I don't like it one bit. Where are Christian priorities? Have "they", and "their salt" fell to....the dung heap?

Are they worth their salt? Do they call Jesus Christ, Lord? Do they call Him Master? If they do, do they lie? Do they do their required service to Him. Do they "play around on the job even though they know better"?

ARE they WORTH THEIR SALT? Is Christ REALLY their Lord and Master? Do they belong to Him? "Really" and "Truly"?

Do they play around in serving Him and obeying Him because they are a "union member" and have no fear of getting fired? "Have they no fear of God"?

Eccl 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

I speak to you with Joseph
Gen 42:18 And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:

I speak to you with David. I will give you my testimony.
Ps 66:16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.

I speak to you with the Apostle Paul.
Acts 13:16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.

Listen to me.
Do you say, "God blesses me, can't you see"? "I must be in His will". Let us examine ourselves in light of "God's Word" not "material blessings".

Matt 5:45 says that God"… maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."

Eccl 8:11-14 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

This is true. Many times, just men seem to have things happen to them as if they were unjust, and unjust men have things happen to them as if they were just.

We must NOT judge our standing with God by "material things we call blessings", as "lost sinners get perceived blessings" which are in reality "their lot in life".

Luke 13:1-2 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Luke 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Some sinners suffer more that others and some are perceived to be blessed, and some righteous suffer more than others and some are blessed more that others.

An example of the longsuffering of God because of the prayers, or the work of His saints.
Luke 13:6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

Luke 13:7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

God says, "I give up on this thing". "Destroy it," but the servant or man of God intervenes in behalf of the unfruitful tree, or Christian.

Luke 13:8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

Luke 13:9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Everything to do and how to do it can be found here in "God's Rule Book". I call it the "King James Bible".

We must examine ourselves and judge ourselves often, IN LIGHT OF GOD'S WORD. "Nothing else" can be used as a standard if we are to get a "true picture" of our "spiritual condition".

Is your Christianity an "on again, off again" Christianity. Is it a water hydrant to be loosed on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings and turned off again as soon as "church is out"?

Do you have regular "family prayer time" at home? Mealtime and bedtime prayer is not to be confused with family prayer time. Do you have regular "Bible readings at home" and meditate on those readings?

If you do not hunger for the Word of God you are sick. You are spiritually sick. When your child looses his appetite, or picks at his food, do you not begin to worry about his physical health? If this continues for a prolonged period of time, do you not consider having him checked by a physician?

If you do not hunger after God's Word, have you checked your spiritual condition? A loss of appetite usually means a decline in a mental or physical condition. It usually means a deterioration of some sort. A remedy must be prescribed and a "home remedy" is not one to be fully trusted. A trained physician prescribing a remedy is best.

A prescription is "written" and this prescription must be "filled" and "consumed" or "applied" in order to be "effective".

Have you lost your appetite for God's Word? Did you ever have it? If the truth be a yes to number one. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. They are "habit forming". They are "addictive". You will grow back in love with His Word. You will get "spiritually better". You will get "spiritually well".

If the truth be yes to number two, EXAMINE YOURSELF. Why hasn't the Holy Spirit of God instilled a love of His Word in you?

Why don't you see the GREAT PHYSICAN? Are you afraid of the COST? Salvation is FREE but "walking the walk" is in "paying the cost".

Must Jesus bear the Cross alone
And all the world go free?
No, there's a cross for everyone
And there's a cross for me.

The consecrated cross I'll bear
Till death shall set me free,
And then go home my crown to wear
For there's a crown for me.

There's a cross for you too. Do your part. Bear it.
There's a symbol for you too. Show it. Wear it.
There's a lifestyle for you too. Live it
There's a witness in you too. Give it

Be the SALT of the earth. Salt is inconspicuous. It is low profile. It doesn't froth, foam or fizzle, yet it is the "spice of life". Let your light so shine that others may see Christ IN YOU by your lifestyle. Inconspicuously live an irreproachable lifestyle. Walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh.

Be the SALT of the earth. Be a stinging salt in the open sores of sin. Make the sinner bite. Be the substance that reminds him of his wounds.

SALT, if not used is worthless. Be a LIGHT in this dark world of sin. Don't be a part of it. Be SALT in the bland soup of sin, so others may know that there is something better. Be the cause of preservation for some lost soul. Flavor his soup with SALT, and forget about Mrs. Dash. There is NO SUBSTITUTE for the REAL THING and I'm not talking about Coke here.

There is NO OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN, but the LIGHT of the World who gave you a dash of SALT. Please use it. Accept no substitute. AMEN

In a rite attended by local witches and scores of singing children led by a black-robed priestess, the mayor of Asheville, North Carolina declared the last week of October "Earth Religions Awareness Week."

The Washington Times quoted the resolution: "Whereas, Earth Religions are among the oldest spiritual systems on the planet; and whereas, Followers of many Earth-centered religions live and worship in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. . . ." (Sword of the Lord, 1/21/00).

[Editor] "Environmentalism" and "socialism" is the "new spiritualism" that is going on in this "American Spiritual Awakening". If it isn't ecumenicalism (religious unity) it's some other 'ism and I'm sick and tired of it all. I'm just about ready for a little R&R. This is "Righteous Ruling" with a little "rodism."(Rev 19:15)

A kindergarten class in California was forced to sing a New Age song during a forestry field trip. Students sat on the ground and sang, "Where I sit is holy. Holy is the ground. Forest, mountain, river--listen to the sound. Great spirits circle all around me. . . . Ancient mother, I hear you calling. . . . Ancient mother, I hear your laughter. Ancient mother, I taste your tears." Parents of one of the students filed suit against the Pajaro Valley School District after they were denied a public hearing on the incident by the school board (Education Reporter, 12/99).

[Editor] America the beautiful, founded on Godly principles, is going back to ancient times when the ancient peoples worshipped the creature rather than the Creator. But the "ancient mother" is gonna get hers from the "Ancient of Days" folks, (Daniel chapter seven) but it sure is tough waiting on the longsuffering of our God and Savior. 'Course if it wasn't for His longsuffering I'd be burning in hell by now. But He protected me until He saved me at the age of 54. Before October 21st 1981 at which time I sobered up, I was a drunk, and believe me, drunks have many opportunities to get themselves and others killed.

Even as a drunk, I believed in the Ancient of Days, I just thought I had to EARN His salvation.

Pocket Books is marketing a "frank" manual for girls as young as ten, telling them how to become a feminist, lesbian, and pro-abortion activist. Deal With It: A Whole New Approach to Your Body, Brain and Life as a Gurl is popular among teens and a top seller on's young adult list. The book is also finding its way to plenty of public-school libraries. Publishers Weekly gave this glowing report: "In a frank, nonjudgmental tone, they discuss topics and details that more conservative guides might skip: lesbianism and bisexuality receive respectful and thorough treatment" (World, 12/11/99).

[Editor] Yeah, folks, America sends her kids to school to "learn how to sin", as if the sinful nature of people needed help from the school system. Teach 'em how to commit abominations before God and when they get old they will not depart from it. God have mercy on us and help us. Enable us to endure in this, the vexing of our souls. Even so, come Lord Jesus.

A second homosexual propaganda video targeting public schools is now being produced. The first video, It's Elementary, was intended as a primer for teachers. The sequel, That's A Family!, kicks off a three-video series that will be shown directly to children in classrooms. The video intertwines stories of children with homosexual and lesbian parents with stories of adoptive, interracial, multi-generational, and step-families.

In a letter to supporters, producers Debra Chasnoff and Helen Cohen bragged about their "stunning" success in marketing the first video to schools, and in convincing 115 PBS stations to air it as well. The letter said the second video That's A Family! is "the first anti-bias media curriculum available for elementary and middle school classrooms that integrates gay people into the full spectrum of diversity" (AFA Journal, 2/00).

[Editor] Teacher education seminars are elementary primers for a teacher that is "young" in the art of indoctrination of the children. The "system" needs to train up teachers just like the schools train up children. Used to be the schools were a benefit to the children, and not it teachers them "multiculturalism", tolerationalism and differentialism.

Folks, we're getting eat up with the ism's.

Las Vegas Nights, offering games of easy craps, black jack, roulette, a money wheel, and an hourly 50/50 raffle, were held October 1-2 at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Westland, Michigan. Beer and refreshments were also available. St. Edith Catholic Church in Livonia has also had Las Vegas Nights, reports the Detroit Free Press (Sword of the Lord, 12/24/99).

[Editor] Now this is something I used to do. I used to work these Las Vegas gambling nights in the Catholic church I belonged to. Hey-I was a "big man" in that church. I could organize these types of things. Why, my wife organized one of the biggest bingo nights in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas TX in the 1970's.

Ask for me and my wife's testimony if you want it and I will send it.

A survey of Roman Catholic priests by the Kansas City Star has discovered that priests may be dying of AIDS at a much higher rate than is to be found in the U.S. population as a whole. The survey results imply that a significant number of priests are homosexual and not celibate.

The Star sent the survey randomly to 3,000 priests and got a 27 percent response. Seven respondents said they either have HIV or AIDS or might have but had not been tested. This ratio--about 1 in 114--is about three times higher than the national average. Six of every ten respondents also said they knew at least one priest who had died of an AIDS-related illness. One-third of the respondents knew a priest currently living with AIDS (Christian Century, 3/1/00).

[Editor] A Roman Catholic Sodomite is to forgive the sins of an Adulteress? How 'bout that! Roman Catholic Clergy cannot MARRY a WOMAN but they "most certainly" do FORNICATE with MEN & BOYS.

Ever hear about the WHORE of Revelation thirteen, and how for centuries Christians understand this to be the Roman Catholic Church? This Church will play an "important" role in the end-times. Maybe more so than many believe.

I guess some Roman Catholic clergy get addicted to homosexuality and after awhile no longer desire a woman. The Book of Daniel speaks thus of the anti-Christ.

Dan 11:37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, "nor the desire of women", nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

Back in 1900 a mere 0.2% of the inhabitants of planet earth claimed to be atheist, agnostic, or non-religious. By the close of the 20th century, however, 988 million people (18.3 % of the global population) said they didn't believe in God. ("Current Thoughts &Trends", Feb 2000)

[Editor] I don't know how they arrived at these figures, but that is not so much as what bothers me. I believe my calling is to expose deception in "politically correct " churches. That's CHURCHES now mind you. I speak out against those who say they DO believe in God, and against those that say they ARE religious, but deny the power thereof. (2 Tim 3:5)

I HATE sin and I HATE those that call themselves Christian (followers of Christ) but follow the world and false teachers. I HATE those that bring reproach to the Name of Christ and put Him to an open shame.

The Detroit News reporting on a monthly church-sponsored concert, which draws more fans than most local clubs says that the unique approach at attracting young adults to church, even in a concert-type setting, has paid off. Many in the audience, who have attended Kensington Community Church in Troy MI for the first time for the concerts, return the next day for church services. It reports that a person name "Hudson" says that, "Church isn't just about Sunday morning". "It's an invitation for people to touch our community and ultimately find a personal relationship with God available to them."

[Editor] Folks, Church is not about anything the article speaks of. The CHURCH is a BODY of BELIEVERS. The CHURCH is not a PLACE; it is a LIVING ORGANISM in a local setting. A MUSIC CONCERT is NOT the power of God unto salvation; therefore it CANNOT get young adults into the CHURCH. CHURCH is not about Sunday or any other day. The CHURCH is those that are placed in the BODY OF CHRIST. CHURCH is what happens AFTER the CHURCH invites the community by preaching the GOSPEL OF CHRIST; the power of GOD to place them that believe the good news INTO THE CHURCH.

We Must Earnestly Contend For The Faith-Jude 1:3
